Crafting With a Vintage Look, Issue #014 (CORRECTED) - Have a Vintage Valentine's Day!
January 23, 2009

Issue #014 - Valentine's Day is one of those holidays with murky, mythical roots - and some darned fine vintage images. We have been poring over our antique Valentine pictures, marveling at the gorgeous illustrations from the Victorian days. Cupid was depicted as everything from chubby, cute and playful, to just this side of sadistic. Children were all mooney and tongue-tied. And love - well it is truly timeless.

For our first 2009 edition of Crafting With a Vintage Look we wanted to offer you something special. We think we've found it, and more:

  • Tell your Valentine sweetheart "it's time for love" with our exclusive Valentine Clock.
  • Meet the amazing woman behind The New Book of Image Transfer in our interview with renowned author, Debba Haupert.
  • Find the BEST vintage images for Valentine's Day in our Vintage Image Download Gallery. Cupids and children galore!
  • Browse some of the great craft blogs we have been following.

Our vintage image eBay auctions are really HOT right now. We've been sending our pristine postcards and ephemera all around the globe. If you are one of our auction customers - thank you so much.

On to the crafts...

Valentine Clock
"A Heart on Wings"

When Valentine cards, chocolates and flowers don't express it all, we have the perfect Valentine craft for you. Our exclusive Valentine Clock will tell your sweetheart that "it's time for love" with a Victorian flourish. The fluffy white cherub wings (Martin's idea) are the embellishment that makes this easy craft so adorable.

And, knowing our frugal natures, you'll not be surprised that the "heart" of this craft is a recycled candy box. Yes, the added bonus is you have to eat a box of chocolates just to begin this craft!

We provide the FREE vintage image and complete instructions for you at Valentine Clock Craft.

We'd love to know that you've made one for yourself and maybe see a picture or two! Drop us a note.

Meet Debba Haupert
Author of The New Book of Image Transfer

It was the subtitle of The New Book of Image Transfer that first grabbed our attention: "How to Add Any Image to Almost Anything with Fabulous Results." That was enough to make us browse through it. And then the inevitable: buy it, try the incredible techniques, and fall in love with the author, Debba Haupert.

Debba is a serial career woman, and each career has been a triumph. You may know her from this award-winning book, from her appearances on the Carol Duvall Show and QVC, or through her incredible networking website for women, Now you can have a little one-on-one time with her in our exclusive interview:

Inspiring Books 'n Blogs

Today in Crafting With a Vintage Look, we offer two blogomendations:

  • Bella Nella's Paper Crafts is practically misty with Victorian charm and elegance. Nelly works beautifully in many mediums, but we think she really shines in paper crafts and jewelry. We guarantee you'll have several "oooh!" moments and at least one "I can make that" revelation. Brew a cup of tea and spend a half hour with Bella Nella's Paper Crafts.

  • We know we shouldn't be feeding their habit, but Altered Art Junkies are just too much fun. Samantha and Ramona keep up a steady whirlwind of card swaps, material and tool reviews, ideas and good advice. You can practically smell the glue and glitter in the air at Altered Art Junkies.

Looking for a silver lining these days? Crafting and scrapbooking are on the rise, they say. It seems that global economic ills are providing incentives for people to stay at home and hand-make their own entertainment, gifts and home decor. We hope we can be part of that Renaissance in your life and around the world.

Our next issue of Crafting With A Vintage Look will be out around February 20 - with a bit of the "wearin' o' the green" for St. Patrick's Day! As always, contact us with your ideas and suggestions!

We received the nicest note from Liz and felt compelled to quote her - You have the BEST website for vintage crafts! I find all of your downloads easy, clear and of excellent quality. And the wealth of information on vintage crafts is unbelievable. Keep up the good work. I look forward to each of your updates. A special Valentine's kiss to Liz!
