Crafting With a Vintage Look #035 - Christmas Card #3 and buyers speak out!
November 13, 2009

Issue #035 - The "Christmas Card of the Moment" for today is the Victorian Christmas Tree Pop Up. Upscale greeting cards at the close of the 19th Century were starting to get a little crazy. Cards might be embellished with honeycombed tissue paper, lace, tassels and layered die-cut "scraps." Pop up cards were all the rage, from Santa in his miniature sleigh, to a Valentine wagon overflowing with hearts and flowers.

We swiped a page from that book for our third "Christmas Card of the Moment."

Pop in to this Special Edition of Crafting With a Vintage Look for:

  • Our Christmas Card of the Moment #3, Victorian Christmas Tree Pop Up, plus our (two more days!) Subscriber Discount!
  • A new Christmas Image Book for dog lovers.
  • Some bedazzling calendar inspiration from Kathy.
  • Buyers speak out!.

Let's get crafting...

Christmas Card of the Moment #3
Victorian Christmas Tree Pop Up

Three wide-eyed children peek in the parlor doors at the glowing Christmas tree - just beyond our sight. But we are treated to the surprise when we open the card. A pop up Christmas tree, lit with candles and surrounded by toys, leaps out in three dimensions.

The pop up mechanism is the simplest engineering feat, with some basic folds and gluing. The lacy embellishment on the cover, as well as the golden halo around the tree inside are achieved by using paper doilies as stencils for white and yellow craft paint. It couldn't be easier.

This Card of the Moment is the third in our new e-book, Ten Vintage Christmas Greetings to Make. It is published in a convenient, high-quality PDF file format. You download it to your computer for reading or printing. The vintage images are included in high-resolution, pre-sized format, ready to print at a copy center or on your home ink-jet printer!

Christmas Dogs I
image book

From Christmas Dogs I

We heard you loud and clear. While some of you were happily downloading Christmas Cats I image books, others of you were barking up our tree. "WHERE ARE THE DOGS?" Donna for one was specific: "Dogs would be great. Especially Black Lab or Golden Retriever."

So we sniffed through our piles of Victorian Christmas ephemera, and found dogs in the snow, dogs wreathed in holly, dogs pulling Santa's sleigh, and dogs just being dogs. We scanned and restored the best of the best and created Christmas Dogs I. Just for you.

Show and Tell

Kathy has been making fanciful calendar pages for her family and friends for a long, long time. She sent us a photo of her October 2009 calendar page, with the nicest note!

"For the past 16 years I've been doing a monthly calendar for family and others to put up on their refrigerators with magnets. After I told you that if I used your images I'd send a copy to you I realized how many of your graphics were on this October calendar. Thank you for the great source of vintage graphics!

"BTW, I love the Christmas eBook! That Edison record is the cutest idea ever! Everything in the book is new and different. I'm looking forward to your Valentine's Day eBook." Kathy

So are we, Kathy, so are we...

Buyers Speak Out!

On Ten Vintage Christmas Greetings to Make:

"I have been looking through the book and love the artwork and the very explicit instructions you give for each card yet you also allow room for us to "do our own thing" with them. I am so glad I bought the book and maybe I am the only one over in Wales in UK who might have it. Once again thanks a lot." Kathryn

(Okay, so who wants to prove Kathyn wrong that she is the only crafter in Wales who has a copy of our book?)
