ANNOUNCING...
The
WINNERS of
The VIC Halloween Creative Challenge!
WITCH
CRAFTS!
FIRST
PRIZE
Witches
Ball Matchbox by Nancy Yankowski is a
miniature marvel of design. The
Halloween theme comes across strongly, with the vintage figures and
text. Several different textured embellishments come together on this
tiny treasure. Nancy will receive a copy of Diane
Arkins’
wonderful book, Halloween
Merrymaking: An Illustrated Celebration of Fun, Food, and Frolics from
Halloweens Past, generously
provided by Pelican
Publishing Company. She also
has an exclusive tour of Castle Halloween! The
winning artwork will also be
displayed
on the Vintage
Image Craft Home Page for one month!
SECOND
PRIZE
All
Halloween by Virginia Chapman is a bold
and witty
greeting card displaying several collage techniques. The
distressing is expertly done, while
the brads and stitching add shabby charm to the cover. Embossing the
stamped images adds a spooky shimmer to the spider-webs and inside
images. Virginia will receive
the
new vintage rubber stamp suite, Moments In
Time by Roni Johnson. This beautiful
unmounted laser-etched stamp set is part of the Ink
Stained Roni
line offered by Queen
Kat Designs Stamp Company.
THIRD
PRIZE
Halloween
Treats Bucket by Cindy Pointe features
detailed artistic
work, including silhouette images, collaged textures and hand-written
text. The colors, shapes and embellishments on this craft are
delightful. Cindy will receive a Vintage Image
Craft
Image Book download.
The
judges, Roni
Johnson, Justine Frederick,
Berta Feige, Scott Henderson and Martin Bray want to thank all of
the artists who submitted their work for this August 2010 Creative
Challenge. Each piece celebrated the magical theme of "Witch
Crafts." Thank you for sharing your imagination with all of
us.
Inspiring
Books 'n Blogs
Sometimes, our creative batteries can be
recharged just by seeing an artist "doing it right." That's how we feel
every time we visit Darlene's blog at Cinnamon Pink.
Today, she's showing how she turned a vintage mushroom drawing into a
riff on Alice in
Wonderland. Before that, she was creating a patchwork
collage with bits of scrap paper. And in between, she shares tips on
the materials and products she uses so expertly. If you love the
vintage look, you'll enjoy seeing an artist who really makes it "sing."

Scott, Martin
and the entire Vintage Image Craft
staff
(both of us) are moving from Glendale, California, to Bellingham,
Washington! This was our dream, for Martin to retire from
teaching, find the perfect house, and move to the
beautiful Pacific Northwest. It wasn't exactly our dream to
compress it all into a few short weeks.
Martin retired on June 30. We took a quick trip
up to Bellingham in July, and stumbled across an intriguing
house overlooking
the bay and the San Juan Islands. With a "what the hey" attitude, we
made an offer. OMG! The lovely owners accepted it! We weren't worthy.
We immediately put our vintage home of 18 years up for sale. Five (!)
days later, we sold it to a wonderful young couple. Now we are
up to our necks in boxes, paper, and bubble wrap. No time for
California dreamin' - we move 16,000 pounds of stuff on September
17.
So, Vintage Image Craft
and our newsletter, The VIC Pictorial will
slow down for a few weeks, until we get back on our feet in Washington.
And we find the box with the computer in it.
Congratulations again to our Halloween Creative
Challenge
winners! And
another THANK YOU to our Celebrity Judges, Justine
Frederick, Berta
Feige and Roni Johnson - three
of the most generous and crafty witches we know.
