About us...

Scott and Martin hanging around at Joann Fabrics and Crafts

Martin is on the left, and that is me, Scott, on the right. We're just hanging around at Joann Fabrics and Crafts in Glendale, California. Here's a little about us...

Martin makes crafts every day -- he is a Kindergarten teacher. You learn a lot when mixing glue, paint, paper and scissors with 5-year olds. Here he is in his room just before Open House a month ago (yes, every wall and the ceiling are covered with kid crafts).

Martin in his Kindergarten classroom with crafts

I started crafting in Kindergarten myself, and never stopped. I lived for Better Homes & Gardens holiday issues. Even now I get nostalgic when I see those horrible 1960s crafts like orange and blue yarn ornaments and nativity scenes made out of bottlecaps.

How did we get into vintage images? Several generations of Martin's family collected illustrated postcards, and Martin inherited both the collecting gene - and many of the postcards. I got into collecting too in the 1980s, and now we have thousands and thousands of beautiful vintage postcards and photographs.

When the vintage look started to blossom in crafting and scrapbooking, we were right with it. The more we made, the more we loved it and wanted to share - and our website was born.

We have a couple of crafting biases you may have noticed about us. First, we like to make things from scratch. We'd rather carve our own rubber stamp before we'd buy one. If I could mix my own glue, I'd do it (I tried...not pretty). Our second bias is for using recycled materials. Our garage is stocked (and stacked) with paper towel tubes, plastic containers, cereal boxes, fabric and ribbon scraps, bottles... need I go on? Everything we can save from the dump is a win for conservation and creativity. And with vintage images, we even recycle art.

Enough about us for now. Back to the garage...
