The Christmas scrapbook page:
Use vintage image colors to set your
palette
Christmas at the McCaffey's is always a creative family occasion.
All the kids are out of school - Tim, Marc and Becky - just
hanging around. Crafting and scrapbooking are family traditions, and each year they all
make ornaments for the tree. This year, they took photos of
their
creations. It was a perfect springboard for their Christmas
scrapbook page.
The colorful vintage image on this page is a turn-of-the-century
postcard in bright reds, greens, blues and golds, of children parading
around the Christmas tree. We matched our scrapbook colors to
that joyful picture. And who knew? Tim, Marc and Becky were
wearing the same colors! With some embellishments like silver
paper, ribbon, and a home-made rubber stamp, we created a page that
reflects the McCaffey's memorable, and crafty holiday.
We'll show you the simple steps to a glowing Christmas memory page.
Materials
- Vintage image (Free PDF download).
- Background paper: red 12"
X 12" paper.
- Trim papers: blue and green.
- Backing paper: silver metallic paper.
- A wood block, 1" X 1", or cardboard and masking
tape to make a block (see Tips).
- Six small rubber bands (1/8" wide, 2"
long)
- Thin green satin ribbon.
- Rubber stamp ink pad, metallic silver.
- Journaling pen.
- Masking tape or transparent tape.
- Glue stick or other non-acid paper adhesive.
- Hole punch.
- Scissors.
- Paper cutter (optional).
Instructions
- Print the vintage image on matte photo
paper and trim it.

- Make the rubber stamp by stretching six rubber
bands, parallel and evenly spaced, around the wood block (see Tips). Wrap a piece of masking tape
around the block to secure the bands.
- On the blue paper, use the rubber stamp and
silver ink pad to stamp a basketweave pattern in tight rows of
alternating vertical and
horizontal lines, covering at least 5" X 12".
- Trim the blue paper to 4.5" X 12".
Trim the green paper to 2" X 12". Glue the green
paper at the bottom of the red background paper. Above it,
glue the blue paper to the background.
- Trace a 3" circle pattern on your photos (we
used the rim of a drinking glass). Cut them out and glue them
to the metallic silver backing paper. Trace a circle
on the silver paper about 1/4" larger (with a larger glass)
around the photos and draw a square tab at the top for the ornament
hanger. Cut them out. Punch a hole in the hanger tab.
- Glue the vintage image to the center of the
blue paper. Glue the three photo ornaments above the image.
Tie 4" of green ribbon through the hole on each ornament with
a bow and glue the ribbon up to the top of the page.
- Journal the who, what, when, where and
why on
the green paper at the bottom of the page
