Easter baskets, candy jars and bowls, vases of tulips, bags of seeds -
and don't forget the humble egg. These are some of the many
"containers" that symbolize the season of spring and its Easter holiday.
We challenged our VIC friends to create a decorative container that
held the joy of the season. Over the course of a month, artists
submitted entries that expressed that joy. Three of those festive
containers "ranneth over" with the promise of Spring, and they won the
VIC Creative Challenge, April 2012!
Thank you and congratulations to each artist who shared her creativity.
Lyneen Jesse could outfit an Easter-egg hunt. She transformed recycled
tin cans with proper Victorian excessiveness. Ruffles, trims, ribbons
and pastel colors made each little basket a delight to the eye.
Lyneen comes back from a second prize win last month! She will
receive a copy of the wonderful book, The Artful Storybook by
Terry Taylor, generously
provided by Sterling Publishing. Her winning artwork will also be
on the Vintage Image Craft Home Page for one month!
Lynn Polochock reminds us of a spring meadow. Like a little diorama,
Lynn created a pastoral scene of chicks and bunnies in Easter finery,
all on top of a grass-filled box. We especially liked how she layered
the figures in perspective, creating an interplay of character and
shadow. Lynn will receive a VIC e-book from our Cards With a Past
by Confectionique surprised us with her imagination. The gold charger
was the perfect palette for her arrangement of rosettes of delicately patterned and
hued papers. Glitters and metallic embellishments add the spark that
highlights the careful composition and layering of the elements. This
is clearly the work of an artistedu papier. Confectionique
will receive a Vintage
Congratulations to our WINNERS, and thank you for
your participation, too! The judging decisions were difficult, but each
entry gave us reason to marvel in your creative imaginations! Every
embraced the "Containers" theme, and brought a unique vision to the challenge. You can browse each entry through
links below, and even leave your comments for the artists!
We want to acknowledge Sterling Publishing and Lark Crafts, for generously donating the grand
prize, a copy of Terry Taylor's remarkable book, The Artful
Storybook, Mixed-Media Artists Create Handmade Tales. 21 different artists display their
one-of-a-kind storybooks, and describe these visual narratives of real
or imagined tales. The formats range from bound books to pop ups to
miniatures, and the mixed-media techniques will inspire you. We were so
happy to see our friend, Sandra Evertson, represented with her vintage
artwork collage, "Trussard and the Magic Seeds." The book is a $17.95
